James Thomas “Tom” Archer, 47, of Uhrichsville, O., died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Twin City Hospital in Dennison, O. Tom’s final act was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
Born June 12, 1963 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Joseph and Ruth Elaine (Powell) Archer.
Tom was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area and a 1982 graduate of Claymont High School. After high school, he worked for a time at the former Cummings SOHIO Station in Dennison before starting his career with Superior Clay Corporation where he would spend twenty-seven years. While at Superior Clay, Tom was a dedicated supporter of the United Steelworkers Local #2737, having served as president for the last two terms.
A man of many interests who lived life to the fullest, Tom was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns who also enjoyed fishing, spending time at the ocean, and fleamarketing. His happiest times were spent when he was with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved coaching his children in baseball and softball, and he was a past president of Little League during that time. He faithfully attended the sporting events for all of his children and grandchildren. He also loved being with his buddies and looked forward each year to going to Jimmy Buffet concerts with his wife and great friends, Jim and Sally Bonner.
On July 27, 2002, Tom married Penny M. (Piccin) Archer who survives him. His other surviving family includes his children, Jason L. Jackson and his wife, Abigail, of Dennison, Nathan S. Jackson and his wife, Lindsay, of Uhrichsville, Thomas J. “T.J.” Archer of Columbus, Ashlie Rae and Abbie Jane Jackson of the home, and Stacie N. Pottenger and her husband, Matt, of Savannah, Ga.; six grandchildren, Taylor, Hunter, Matthew, Ryan, Nora and Ellis Jackson; sisters, Linda Arnold, Diana Lorenz, and Tink Fowler and her husband, Buddy, all of Uhrichsville; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Kim Piccin and Daniel and Rona Piccin of Uhrichsville, and Sally Archer of Coshocton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his beloved dog, Ladygirl.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joey Archer, and two brothers-in-law, Larry Arnold and Bucky Lorenz.
In keeping with Tom’s wishes, he has been cremated. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, and celebration of his life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
