James R. “Jim” Page, 69, of New Philadelphia, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, following a brief battle with Acute Erythroid Leukemia. Born November 7, 1947 in Dover, he was the son of the late Chester C. and Celesta D. (Schum) Page.
At a young age, Jim became an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast, a passion he would share with his 3 sons throughout their lives together. On January 22, 1972, Jim married the former Marilyn E. Starcher. Together they would continue their love of cars and motorcycles, riding all over the county, in all types of weather. Jim worked for East Ohio Heating and the former Norton Company. He was the owner of Jim’s H-O Raceway, where he met many hobby enthusiasts over the years. He was a member of the Dover Ski Club from 1980 to 1985. Jim is best known for the extravagant Christmas light display at his home on St. Rte. 416, a tradition he started in 1975 and passed on to his children and grandchildren. He is also well known for his love of his 1986 Honda Shadow on which he spent numerous hours preparing for car and bike shows throughout the county and surrounding areas.
Jim will be sadly missed by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Shane (Trisha), Timothy (Katie) and Matthew (Tara) Page; grandchildren, Mitchell and Brayden Troyer, and Lucas, Matilyn, Brookelynn and Seth Page; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alta and James Neiger and Ethel and Don Reese; and nephew, John Orr. The family wishes to extend thanks to Jim’s friends over the years, Karl Matthus, Mark Petrulo, Denny McClain, Gary Zion and his Burger King Lunch friends. They are also grateful to all the Ember Compete Care Staff, as well as Stephanie Gardner, his nurse, for their care for Jim over the past few years.
Services, officiated by Pastor Lee Randolph, will be held at 1pm on Sunday, November 13, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison with visitation for two hours prior to the service. A private graveside service will be held in Greenmont Cemetery in Freeport.
