James Harold “Jim” Horning, 71, of Canton, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016, at VA Wade Park Medical Center in Cleveland. Born February 28, 1945 in Canton, he was a son of the late Harold C. and Virginia L. (Stratton) Horning.
After his graduation from McKinley High School in 1963, Jim attended Florida State University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of the Army Security Agency in Ft. Dix, New Jersey and was deployed twice. He was a member of First Christian Church in Canton.
Jim is survived by his sister, Karen (Mark) Harriman; daughter, Lauren Horning; grandson, Cooper; nephews and niece, Douglas (Tori) Harriman, Geoffrey (Kim) Harriman, and Julie (companion, Ken Metzger) Harriman; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, he will be cremated without a public visitation. A private graveside service, with military honors, will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at Rittman. Memorial contributions may be made to Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663, in lieu of flowers.
