James Allen “Jim” Barker, 65, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Uhrichsville, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia after a period of declining health. Born October 19, 1949 in Dennison, he was a son of the late James William “Bill” and Bessie A. (Quillen) Barker.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County who attended Dennison High School in his youth. Over the years, he worked for several area claypipe companies, the Uhrichsville Service Department and Alsco in Gnadenhutten. In his spare time, he loved gardening, bowling and stock car racing.
His surviving family includes a brother, Dale (Belinda) Barker of Uhrichsville; sister, Sandra K. Reed of Uhrichsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Barker.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, he will be buried in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery beside his beloved parents without a prior public visitation. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 24 at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
