James W. Green, 67, of Dennison, O., died at his home on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer that he had fought since 2006.
Born June 1, 1942 in Tango, W. Va., he was a son of the late Lowell Warren and Clara Jeanette (Goode) Green.
A resident of Ohio since his teen years, Jim worked as a transport driver in the Massillon and Navarre area for many years and was a member of Teamsters Local #92. From 1960 to 1970, he was employed by Ferris Produce in Massillon. He then worked the next thirty-one years for Nickles Bakery in Navarre until his retirement in 2001.
On February 2, 2010, Jim married his loving companion of twenty-six years, Patricia Ann (Harper) Green who survives him. He loved traveling with Pat and his beloved canine, Geronamo, enjoying many great vacations with the two of them over the years, which are well documented in the countless photos he took. He also enjoyed playing guitar and shooting.
Jim’s surviving family includes his twin daughters: Janet Porter, and Diane Stinespring and her husband, Frank, all of Massillon; a son, James W. Green, Jr. and his wife, Joy, also of Massillon; eight grandchildren: Mike Porter, II, Sara Clouse, Tori Porter, Jenn Green, Keith Stinespring, Staci Stinespring, Alan Green, and Wes Green; and three great-grandchildren: Lexi, Mike III, and Bruce.
He is also survived by six step children: Gail Brown and her husband, Dave, of Gnadenhutten, Bobbi Kohler and her companion, Gary Jenkins, of Dennison, Patsianne Carew and her husband, Steve, of Boise, Idaho, Craig Malterer and his companion, Jen Morrison, of Port Washington, Michael Malterer and his companion, Hollie Oswald, of Dennison, and Kylie Malterer of Dover; twenty step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his half brother, Tim Brogan of South Charleston, W. Va.; his dear friend and former brother-in-law, Chan Ferrell; a niece, Tammy Keppler and her husband, Rob, of Strasburg; and twin great nieces to whom he was like a grandfather, Megan and Taylor Keppler, as well.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Irene Ferrell, as well as his loyal canine companion, Geronamo.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, he will be cremated without a public visitation or service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at his home. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Cancer Society.
