James Eugene Cargnel

James Eugene Cargnel, 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, after a period of declining health. Born May 28, 1937, he was the son of the late Aldo Victor and Amelia Sara (Costa) Cargnel.

Jim was a resident of Tuscarawas County for much of his life. He was employed by Puritan Laundry for 26 years before starting a business with his wife, Cargnel’s Cleaning Service, of which they were the owners and proprietors for many years. He was a 4-H supporter and avid buyer at the Tuscarawas County Fair each year.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Stamets-Sullivan-Cargnel whom he married on March 30, 1998; children, Jessica (Jason) Bergquist, Jimmy Cargnel, Bob Cargnel, Jan (Jim) Beitzel, and Sharon (Jon) Harmon; stepchildren, Walt (Gayla) Sullivan and Wanda (Justin) Angel; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Kaye (Larry) Harmon; aunt, Lorena Costa; brothers-in-law, John Stamets, Clint (Lucy) Stamets and Robert Stamets; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including Vicki (Rusty) Knisey with whom he was especially close; and his beloved “fur babies” . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Emanuele and Faustina Costa; granddaughter, Joanna Sharon Kaye Beitzel Sellards; sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Edward Dotto and Patricia and Kenneth Maurer; and brother-in-law, Frank Stamets.

Services, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will be in East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
