Jacqueline Anna Strawn, 77, of Dennison, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from her son’s home near Sherrodsville. Born July 28, 1944 in Warwood, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Doyle Boyd and Thelma E. (Cox) Strawn.
After spending her childhood in West Virginia, Jackie moved to Dennison in the 60s and was a 1963 graduate of Dennison High School. She loved her classmates and was active in planning class reunions and with the Dennison Alumni Association. In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, she worked for Timken Co. in New Philadelphia for a decade until her retirement. She was a licensed auctioneer, as well. Throughout many phases in her life, she also cleaned homes for family and friends, developing lifelong relationships with her clients. She will be remembered as the sort of selfless woman who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Jackie loved the outdoors, spending many happy hours gardening and bird watching, and she was a longtime member of Leesville Faith Community Chapel.
Jackie will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes her children, Valerie (Rick) Garbrandt and Marc (Lyn) Roush; grandchildren, Joseph Garbrandt, Aubriann Roush, Josh (Marissa) Garbrandt, Kayla Garbrandt, Alaina Roush, and Matthew, Jazmin, Jeffrey, Rebecca, Adam, Daniel, and Johnathon Garbrandt; step grandchildren, Chantz, Mackenzie, and Gage Petrie; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Strawn; sister, Winnifred McGuire; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of dear friends, along with her beloved church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Thelma; stepmother, Emma (Custer) Strawn; brothers, Victor, John Paul “Sonny”, and Doyle Strawn (who died while serving in the Army in World War II and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery); sister, Betty Lee Graeb; and infant sisters, Charlotte Gray and Charlotte Ann.
Pastor Doug McFadden will officiate her funeral at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, at R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens in Sherrodsville. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
