Jack A. Hayman, 70, of Dover, was called to the more immediate presence of his Lord and Savior on September 17, 2015 from Hennis Care Centre in Dover after quickly, but peacefully, succumbing to cancer. Born April 21, 1945 in Utica, New York, he was a son of the late Lester Earl and Edith A. (Zacaroli) Hayman.
On April 22, 1967, Jack married Linda J. (Porter) Hayman with whom he celebrated 48 years of loving marriage this spring. He is also survived by sons, David (Kelly) Hayman and Chris (Lily) Hayman; grandchildren, Rebekah, Shayna and Zach Hayman; brother, Dennis Hayman; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Donna DeArmond, Robert Porter, and Bill (Marla) Porter; and many nieces and nephews. While his loving family will miss him very much, they are comforted in knowing that he is in the arms of Jesus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Robert and Shirley Porter.
After growing up in Utica, Jack was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Since 1977, he was a resident of Dover. Until his retirement in 2011, Jack was a business systems analyst for Diebold for over 35 years. Jack gave of himself to his community in many ways including as a past president of the Dover Band Boosters and active parent with Youth Musicale while his sons were in high school. In recent years, he was involved with Mobile Meals, both in delivering, as well as in serving on their board. He used his computer skills to develop web sites for Indian Hills Christian School and the Dominic Greco Memorial Band, and had also been a greeter at the Reeves Mansion. Jack was a skilled amateur photographer who especially loved visiting and photographing lighthouses. A man of many talents, he also enjoyed woodworking and writing poetry.
Above all else, Jack was blessed with a deep and sincere faith which guided his life and motivated him to live his faith in order to bring others to Christ. He was a longtime member of Dover First Moravian Church where he served in many capacities including multiple terms as an Elder, a longtime Sunday School teacher, and a faithful and gifted member of the Chancel Choir. He will be deeply missed by his church family.
Services for Jack, officiated by the Rev. John Wallace, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, in the sanctuary of Dover First Moravian Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Jack’s memory are encouraged to be given to the Dover First Moravian Church Music Endowment Fund.
