Irma M. George

Irma M. George, 89, of Gnadenhutten passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Hennis Care Centre of Bolivar following a period of declining health. Born on July 1, 1922 in Gnadenhutten, she was the daughter of the late Blair George and Esther (Hiller) George.

After graduating from Gnadenhutten High School in 1940 she went on to receive her Bachelors degree from Muskingum College. Irma’s passion came from teaching business subjects including typing, short hand and many more. She began her teaching career at Mineral City Schools for two years then she proceeded to teach at Dennison High School and Claymont High School for the next 30 years until her retirement in 1976. She also was active in the school’s drama club. Irma was a VIP at the Ohio Historical Society’s dedication of the old Dennison High School. She was a member and Treasurer for the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church for many years and had also attended Uhrichsville Christian Temple.

Irma leaves behind her dear friend who was like a son to her, Tom Weaver and his wife, Tammie of Dundee. Irma will also be fondly missed by Thomas Allen Weaver Jr. and Aaron Michael Weaver whom she helped raise following the passing of their mother and whom she saw as her own grandchildren.

Funeral services for Irma, officiated by Rev Larry Hostetler will be held on Monday, March 26, at 6:00 p.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday. A private family burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Those wishing to honor Irma’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Claymont Foundation.
