Irene Garbrandt, 75, of Gnadenhutten, O., passed away in her home on Thursday, January 1, 2009, following a lengthy illness.
Born March 5, 1933 in Hazard, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Kelly and Gladys (Haney) Chatt.
A resident of Tuscarawas County for most of her life, Irene was the loving wife of Richard D. Garbrandt who survives her. Married on September 19, 1956, they had five children, Glenda Conway and her husband, John, of Uhrichsville, Richard Garbrandt, Jr. of the home, Michael Garbrandt and his wife, Mary, of Newcomerstown, and Roy Daniel Garbrandt and Vera Selway who preceded Irene in death. Fifteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren complete the family.
In addition to her parents, son and daughter, Irene was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Chatt. A half sister, Jackie Chatt, and half brother, Ray Chatt, both of Kentucky, survive her, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Irene devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved caring for her family and home, and also enjoyed reading books and playing games of chance, including Bingo.
On Monday, January 5, family and friends are invited to gather beside Irene’s grave at 1:00 p.m. in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery where a service will be conducted by Chaplain Rick Brinsley, the chaplain for Hospice of Tuscarawas County. In keeping with Irene’s wishes, no public visitation is planned.
