Irene A. Conner, 89, of Bloomingdale, O., formerly a longtime resident of Bowerston, O., died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz, O., after a sudden illness.
Born August 5, 1919 in Harpersville, O., she was a daughter of the late Ernest V. and Ethel Mae (Spach) Tweedy.
On July 13, 1953, Irene married Robert L. Conner with whom she enjoyed nearly forty-five years of marriage until his passing on March 17, 1998. She and Bob ran a scrap yard near Bowerston for many years, and she had worked at the Scio Pottery as a kiln drawer, as well.
Irene loved working in her gardens which produced beautiful vegetables that she shared with her friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed crocheting, doing crafts and going to flea markets.
In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Robert and Roy Tweedy.
She is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Emile Lerby with whom she had resided; dear friends, Carl and Antoinette Bonecutter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Irene’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public service or visitation. Interment will take place in Northern Cemetery at Smithfield, O. beside her beloved husband. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
