Ida Dora "Dora" Armstrong-Brower

July 13, 1923 — August 30, 2010

Ida Dora “Dora” Armstrong-Brower, age 87, of Carrollton, O., formerly of Uhrichsville and Scio, died peacefully at 12:10 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover, O. following a period of declining health. For the past several months, she had enjoyed residing at Country Club Retirement Campus.

A daughter of the late George Allen and Nannie Oena (Tinney) Ohler, Dora was born on July 13, 1923 in Dennison, O.

Dora grew up in Dennison where she had been a member of Dennison Presbyterian Church. Later in her life, she had also lived for several years in Palermo then over twenty years in Scio before moving to Carrollton in the early 80s where she was a member of the Carrollton V.F.W. Ladies’ Auxiliary. Dora’s faith was a vital part of her life and, after her health prevented her from attending worship, she continued to support Roxford United Methodist Church and enjoyed watching religious programming at home.

She was the loving wife of Alvin Jurdin Armstrong who died on June 30, 1957. They were blessed with seven children, Stephen Dean Armstrong and his wife, Terrie, of Stow, O., Jackie Leroy Armstrong of Shelby, O., Robert Alvin Armstrong and his wife, Linda, of Sherrodsville, Mrs. Joseph (Darla K.) Gale of Scio, Barry Lynn Armstrong and his wife, Diane, of Mineral City, and Dennis Dane Armstrong and David Allen Armstrong who preceded their mother in death; a daughter-in-law, Pinkie Armstrong of Mineral City; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dora devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother and homemaker whose life revolved around her children. She took great pride in caring for her family and home, especially enjoying the time that she spent beautify her home with lovely flower gardens. She was also deeply patriotic and took great care to display the American flag whenever the weather permitted. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing felt painting. Dora also loved butterflies and received many gifts over the years from family and friends to add to her collection.

She is also survived by a sister, Clara Mae McDevitt of Gnadenhutten; a sister-in-law, Grace Lillian Ohler of New Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, sons, and first husband, Dora was preceded in death by her second husband, Thomas Johnston Brower who died July 16, 1972; two brothers, George Dean Ohler (her twin) and Paul Leroy Ohler; and four sisters, Dorothy Faye Burnett, Wilma Ruth Shamblin, Mary Selena Heiser, and Patricia Joanna Peters.

Services for Dora, officiated by Rev. Henry Mooney, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery at Freeport, O.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Dora’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and Roxford United Methodist Church.
