Howard J. Work, 88, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at The Laurels of Massillon, following a brief illness.
Born September 14, 1920 in Cadiz, O., he was a son of the late Howard A. and Bertha (Johnson) Work.
Howard was a veteran of World War II, having proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. He retired from Union Camp (the former Wallace and Tierney) as a supervisor after working there since 1953.
A lifelong resident of the area, Howard was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison where he had been active in his church. He was also a life member of the Uhrichsville Elks where he enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Howard loved to bowl and was an avid reader, as well as a collector of elephants.
On November 27, 1941, he married the former Helen Eileen Simpson with whom he enjoyed over sixty-six years of marriage until her passing on March 26, 2007. They are survived by a son, Robert Lawrence “Larry” Work and his wife, Sharon, of Uhrichsville; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Sherry A.) Pancher of Canton; eight grandchildren, Becky, Jenny, Jack III, Stacey, Josh, Tammy, Gary and Terry; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Howard was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Pancher, and a sister, Elizabeth Work.
Services for Howard, officiated by Pastor Jack Pancher, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Howard’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
