Howard E. “Mick” McPeek, Jr., 62, of Dennison, O., passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, following a short illness.

Born October 28, 1946 in Dennison, he was a son of Thelma L. (Walton) McPeek of Midvale and the late Howard E. McPeek, Sr.

Mick was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1964 before serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969, having been stationed in Seoul, Korea. Other than his time in the military, he was a lifelong resident of Dennison. He retired from the Boilermakers’ Union in 2004.

Mick was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville where he had been very active in the congregation’s ministry, serving as a lay speaker as well as a Sunday School teacher. He was an excellent speaker who enjoyed bringing the Message to a number of area churches. He also was an accomplished banjo player.

On February 26, 1969, he married Geanie McPeek with whom he recently celebrated forty years of marriage. Mick was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by three children, Carolyn “Sue” Huston and her fiancé, Chris Grafe, of Uhrichsville, Michael David McPeek and his wife, Melissa, of Newcomerstown, and Cynthia Riley of Uhrichsville; and six grandchildren, Mark A. Edwards, Jr. of Dennison, Macey L. and Dane N. Riley of Uhrichsville, and Gabriella D., Jaden S., and Jordan A. McPeek of Newcomerstown. Mick cherished the time that he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed many camping trips with his wife and children, and was an avid traveler throughout his life.

Mick is also survived by his mother, Thelma McPeek; two brothers, Douglas E. McPeek and his wife, Sheila, of Midvale, Daniel L. McPeek and his wife, Sharyn, of Dennison; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Molly A.) Brandon of Midvale and Mrs. John (Mary E.) Free of Uhrichsville; a brother-in-law, Goon Sik Kang of California; and a host of dear aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kang, and a brother-in-law, Min Sik Kang.

Services for Mick, officiated by Pastor Larry Malterer, will be held on Saturday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Mick’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Grace United Methodist Church.
