Howard C. Anno, Sr.

Howard Coral Anno, Sr., 69, of Midvale, formerly a longtime Bowerston resident, passed away at Union Hospital in Dover on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Born January 12, 1945 in Stark Co., Ohio, he was a son of the late Cecil and Margarette Viola (Clark) Anno.

At the age of 17, Howard enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, he began his career at the Scio Pottery where he worked for 13 years while also serving his community as a member of the Bowerston Emergency Squad and Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Scio American Legion and a former member of the Midvale Lions. Howard loved hunting, fishing and camping and had spent many happy times at the ABC Campground (the former Campers’ Paradise) near Dellroy. He will also be remembered by his many CB radio friends where he was known as “Dagwood”.

On May 30, 1964, Howard married the former Lois Jean Hawkins with whom he was planning a celebration of their 50 years of marriage at the end of this month. He is also survived by a son, Howard C. (companion, Sandy Beans) Anno, Jr. of Dover; a daughter, Tina Anno of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Miranda Anno, Christopher Spitler and Kayla Spitler; a great-grandson, Darryn Oliver; mother-in-law, Bessie Bonisolli; sister, Shirley E. Davidson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Richard E., Robert A., Edwin H. and Leroy C. Anno; his father-in-law, William Hawkins; and his stepfather-in-law, Basil Bonisolli, Sr.

Services for Howard, officiated by Evangelist Cynthia Stout, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 12, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Bowerston’s Longview Cemetery with a military committal service. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Diabetes Association and Community Hospice.
