Homer Harvey “Doc” Scott, Jr., 89, of Wooster, formerly of Dover and Columbus, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Born February 10, 1926 in Bowerston, he was the son of the late Homer H. Scott, Sr. and Zula (Price) Scott.
Homer was a 1944 graduate of Bowerston High School before attending Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. He worked at Penn’s Store in Bowerston and J.C. Penny in Dover, was a former member of the Tuscarawas County Sheriffs’ Reserve, and founded Scott Protection Agency which provided security at Union Hospital in Dover.
While living in Columbus, he returned to nursing school and developed a state approved program for health care training for Home Health Aides and Nursing Assistants. He taught part-time at Fort Hayes through the Columbus Public School System, as well as serving the state of Ohio as a Chief Warrant Officer (Medical) for the Ohio Reserve Naval Militia. After retirement, Homer and his late wife, Marilyn, returned to Dover and started “Doc” Scott’s Old Time Traveling Shows.
Homer is survived by his wife, Carol (Cunningham) Scott; daughter, Barbara (Don) Bryan; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Carol and Don, Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many step-children and step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice; second wife, Marilyn; daughters, Jean Scott and Linda Gary; and a great-granddaughter.
In keeping with Homer’s wishes, a private family service is planned. Interment will follow in Bowerston’s Longview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
