Herman H. “Teeter” Mangon, 91, of Dennison, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2020, after a brief period of declining health.
Born February 1, 1929, to the late Benjamin Joseph and Rose Melanie Mangon of Dennison, Teeter remarkably lived his entire life in the same house, which at one point had to be moved up the street to accommodate the building of U.S. Route 250. Graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1947, he proudly served his country during the Korean War in a transportation unit of the United States Army. After the war, Teeter was employed as a block operator for the railroads, but perhaps his most famous job over the years was as Dennison’s “handyman”.
Immensely skilled, Teeter was always willing to help others and share his talents with the community. The epitome of service above self, he was a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of the VFW, American Legion and National Association of Retired & Veteran Railway Employees. Teeter never knew a stranger and his infectious smile, kind soul, and genuine care for people will be dearly missed. He was a man whose faith and family meant most to him and who left a deep impression on all he came across.
On February 23, 1957, he married the former Twyla Jones, with whom he would spend the next sixty-three years and raise six daughters. He is survived by Twyla; five of his six children, including Christine (Joel) Giannobile of Dover, OH; Cindy (Rob) McCarty of Grove City, OH; Faith (Dan) Bailey of New Philadelphia, OH; Mary Beth (Phil) Gora of Orchard Park, NY; and Melanie (Jeff) Ridenour of Hilliard, OH; son-in-law, Hugh Evert; eighteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with another one on the way.
In addition to his parents, Teeter was preceded in death by his nine siblings and his beloved daughter, Teresa Evert.
