Helen Lee Scanlin-Tupper, 83, of New Philadelphia, O., passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Hennis Care Center in Dover, O., following a period of declining health.
Born February 23, 1925 in Dennison, O., she was a daughter of the late Richard Leo and Christine (Sell) Scanlin.
A resident of Columbus, O. for much of her life, Helen was raised in the Twin City area where she attended St. Mary’s High School and returned to Tuscarawas County in 1991. While living in Columbus, Helen was employed by Ohio Bell Telephone for thirty-three years until her retirement in 1984.
Locally, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers, enjoyed the time that she spent with her friends in several card clubs and avidly enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles.
Her surviving family includes a dear cousin, Robert B. Perry and his wife, Wilma J., of North Canton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Tupper, and an aunt, Eleanor Perry.
Services for Helen, officiated by Msgr. George J. Schlegel, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved parents in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.
Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until just before 10:00 a.m. when her funeral procession will leave for the church. Those wishing to honor Helen’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund.
