Helen E. (Wanosik) Frantz-Testa

Helen Elizabeth (Wanosik) Frantz-Testa, 91, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Dennison, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015, at Hennis Care Centre in Dover, after a short illness. Born February 26, 1923 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Mary (Kovack) Wanosik. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Eugene Frantz; second husband, Carl J. Testa; son-in-law, Jim Strother; and siblings, John, George, Stephen, Andrew, Joe, James, Phillip, Mary, and Anna.

Since 1979, Helen was a resident of New Philadelphia where she was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She grew up in Dennison, was a graduate of Dennison High School in 1942, and was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she had also worked for several area bakeries, including the West Bakery and Stoll’s in Uhrichsville, nearly 20 years at Litty’s Bakery in New Philadelphia and almost 10 years at Buehler’s from which she retired. In her spare time, she was an avid sports enthusiast who loved to golf, bowl, and swim, as well as cheering for her favorite teams when she watched them on television. She will also be remembered for her green-thumb and beautiful gardens, and of course, her excellent cooking and baking.

Helen is survived by her children, Kathleen (Rudolph) Karich of Knoxville, Tennessee, Donna Strother and Richard (Beverly) Frantz, Jr. of New Philadelphia, and John Frantz of Dennison; grandchildren, Kimberly, Kari (Eric), Colin (Brittany), and Chad; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Lauren, Nicholas, Lawson, and Olivia; and sister, Mildred “Millie” Povick of Charleston, West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass on Friday, January 30, at 10am in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery near Tuscarawas. Visitation will be 4-8pm on Thursday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
