Helen I. Cummings

Helen I. Cummings, 94, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville after a period of declining health.

Born November 10, 1915 in Harrison Co., O., she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Vincent and Audra Vandora (Mallernee) Rose.

Helen was the loving wife of the late Carl F. Cummings to whom she was married on May 22, 1937, enjoying nearly seventy years of marriage until his passing on January 12, 2007. They are survived by a daughter, Darlene K. Orr of Uhrichsville; three grandchildren, Deborah K. Young and her husband, Jeffrey, of Uhrichsville, Samuel D. Orr, II of Atlanta, Ga., and William D. Orr and his wife, Deana, of Uhrichsville; three great grandchildren, Chase William Orr, Stockton Jeffrey Young, and Rylie Kay Orr; and several nieces and nephews.

The last of her generation, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl V. Rose, and three sisters, Olive Pauline McGinness, Frances L. Norman, and Viola Patterson, in addition to her parents and husband.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who had been a co-proprietor with her husband of Cummings IGA, as well. She was a longtime member of Park Christian Church where she was active in Sunday School, as well as in Phoebe’s Friends. She loved to cook and bake, and her family and friends were often the recipients of her delicious creations. She also enjoyed doing embroidery.

Services for Helen, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Those wishing to honor Helen’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Park Christian Church.
