Hazel E. Trushell

Mar 30, 1945 — Jul 31, 2026

New Philadelphia, Ohio

Hazel Eileen Trushell, 81, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 31, 2026. Born March 30, 1945 in Dennison, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Morrison “Buck” Heavilin and Ethel Marie “Moo” (née Sell) Heavilin.

Hazel spent most of her life as a resident of Bowerston, Ohio. After her 1963 graduation from Conotton Valley High School, she married her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Daniel Edward Trushell, on June 16, 1963. He survives her along with their children, James E. (Denise) Trushell and Danette S. (Dennis) Harding.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Hazel enjoyed a long career of her own – first as a manager for McDonald’s in New Philadelphia and Dover, then as a bookkeeper for Twin City Motors in Dennison. Most of her career was spent working with her daughter and son-in-law at their family business, Harding’s Park Cycle, where she spent 22 years until her retirement in 2020.

While living in Bowerston, Hazel and Dan spent 28 years taking care of the Monroe Township Cemeteries, beginning with mowing and eventually becoming the sextons. In retirement, Hazel enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center, as well as many happy days with her children and her precious “Granddogs”. She was Methodist by faith and had been a member of Scio United Methodist Church for many years.

Pastor Milo Baker and Pastor Brock Caldwell will officiate an 11:00 a.m. funeral on Wednesday, August 5, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Bowerston Longview Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

Hazel’s family extend their deepest gratitude to all of the staff at Park Village Southside in New Philadelphia for all of the exceptional care extended to her over the past several years while Hazel and Dan have made their home there, as well as to her physician, Dr. Casey Perkowski.
