Hazel A. Robb, 74, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia, after a sudden illness. Born August 21, 1937 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late John Godfrey and Wilhelmina Lurana (Warner) Kopp.
Hazel grew up in Tuscarawas County and returned here in 2009 after living in South Carolina for twenty-seven years. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Hazel was a consumer advocate for South Carolina’ Mental Health Services for ten years. Locally, she had worked, along with her husband, at the Tippecanoe YMCA camp where she had been a cook for a number of years. Hazel was a member of Bethel Chapel in Dover who will be remembered for her loving and compassionate nature. She loved to crochet and made countless afghans which she shared with families who had new babies and with a number of area charities for auction.
On February 28, 1976, Hazel married Paul W. Robb who survives her at their home. She is also survived by two sons, Dwayne Lee (Tammy) Addleman and Timothy Brian (fiancée, Karen) of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Lurana Ann (Dan) Baker of New Philadelphia; a stepson, Paul W. (Melinda) Robb, Jr. of Dover; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard Kopp of Dover and Wayne Kopp of Pineville, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Warner Kopp.
In keeping with Hazel’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 18, at 2:00 p.m. in her home, 4219 S.R. 416 S.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
