Hazel M. Pangrazio, 83, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on October 13, 2011 at Union Hospital in Dover. Born March 19, 1928 in Wainwright, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Francis H. “Dina” and Helen M. (Gross) Fox.
Hazel was a lifelong resident of the area who was well known for her delicious, homemade Italian food both at Pangrazio’s Restaurant where she started the restaurant with her husband and mother-in-law, Pauline “Nonno”, in 1953 and continued until 1983, and later at the Dennison Yard (now operated by her grandson, Dino Pangrazio) where her recipes formed the backbone of the original menu. She also helped her husband operate their family business, Pancab, in addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a longtime, devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison where she was an active supporter of her church and its school. Throughout her life, Hazel’s strong faith was central to her and her family.
On June 11, 1945, Hazel married Joseph L. Pangrazio, Sr. who survives her at their home. She was blessed with over sixty-six years of marriage and a loving family which includes a son, Joseph L. Pangrazio, Jr. and his companion, Lillian Devlin, of New Philadelphia; two grandsons, Dino Pangrazio and his wife, Angie, and Nino Pangrazio and his wife, Traci, all of Dennison; and four great grandchildren, Olivia, Isaac, Nadia and Anthony Pangrazio. Hazel is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Vicki Gambs, DeeDee Fox, Chuck Fox, Sharon Fickle, Wayne Hiles, Pauline Hubig, Mike Kastre and Pam Lahr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Francis “Bubby” Fox and his wife, Doris; a sister, Mildred “Boots” Streb; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Pete and Louise Pangrazio, Grace and Bob Boston, Don and Louise Hill, and Lyle and Frances Hiles.
In keeping with Hazel’s adamant wishes, no public visitation is planned. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Lonzo on Monday, October 17, at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church and Elementary, 206 N. 1st St., Dennison, OH 44621.
