Harvey D. “Buster” Gardner, 86, of Tippecanoe, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home with his loving family at his side on Monday, September 8, 2025. Born July 9, 1939 near West Chester in Tuscarawas County’s Perry Township, he was a son of the late John Bert and Helen Lucinda (Weingarth) Gardner.
Harvey was a 1957 graduate of Freeport High School. From 1962 to 1964, he proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. In the 60’s, he attended National Hardwood Lumber Association Grading School in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition to being a farmer, Harvey worked as a sawmill operator at his family’s lumberyard, Gardner Lumber, for most of his life. He was a member of West Union Church in Gilmore.
Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, John R., Clifford G., Glenn E., Donald H., and Kenneth L. Gardner, and sister, Faye Tharp. He is survived by his brother, Richard Gardner of Port Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Bracken Foster will officiate an 11:00 a.m. funeral on Friday, September 12, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. He will be interred in West Union Cemetery at Gilmore with a military committal service. Contributions honoring Harvey’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice, in lieu of flowers.
