Harold E. Shaw, Sr.

Harold Ervin Shaw, Sr., 81, of Uhrichsville, O., succumbed to heart failure at his home on Monday, August 30, 2010.

Born December 12, 1928 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Earl Leroy and Berdetta Belle (McGill) Shaw.

Harold was a lifelong resident of Uhrichsville and a longtime member of Uhrichsville Presbyterian Church. He spent his entire career employed by Truck Sales and Service where he had been a parts manager until his retirement in the early 90s after forty-seven years of employment. Harold had a true gift for working with machines, having won awards by Lincoln Welding for his work. He loved tinkering in his garage and could fix or build almost anything he set his mind to. He built his own home on Indian Hill Road and a log cabin on Sanders Church Road.

Harold is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Lobb) Gatchell Shaw, to whom he was married on February 18, 1992. He is also survived by his two sons and three daughters whom he had with his first wife, Dollie (Beamer) Shaw. They were married on April 24, 1948, and Dolly died on March 8, 1991. Their children are Harold E. “Bud” Shaw, Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Uhrichsville, Thomas L. Shaw and his wife, Nancy, of Dennison, Shirley A. Trolio of Dennison, Patricia M. Winrod of Uhrichsville, and Wanda J. Cahaney and her husband, Pat, of Dennison. Eleven grandchildren, Nikki, Stacey, Chad, Craig, Scott, Misty, Jason, Danyell, Sean, Doug and Shelli; stepdaughters, Polly Beckley and her husband, Ike, of Athens, Tx., Debbie Reichert and her husband, Dave, of Mesa, Az., and Deana Kress and her husband, Mark, of Uhrichsville; twelve step grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren with another expected; and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Harold was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Shaw; a sister, Dorothy Black; two sons-in-law, Ronnie Winrod and Nick Trolio; and a grandson, William A. Trolio.

Services for Harold, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue and Rev. Larry Malterer, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Harold’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and Community Hospice (the former Hospice of Tuscarawas County).
