Harold P. Eastwood

Harold Peirce Eastwood, 85, of the Tappan Lake area near Scio, O. since 1989, formerly a longtime resident of Maple Heights, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio after a sudden illness. Born June 1, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late Otto William and Pauline Corine (Peirce) Eastwood.

Harold was a graduate of Orange High School near Cleveland in the class of 1943 before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard with whom he served his country for three years during World War II. Upon returning home from the service, he began his life’s work in carpentry with J.P. Little, later working for Gellin Co. He also was a police officer for the village of North Randall for a number of years. Methodist by faith, he was a member first of Aldersgate United Methodist Church then Maple Heights United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Orange High School Alumni Association and the Carpenters Union. Harold relished the time that he spent in his retirement home at Tappan Lake where he enjoyed watching the many birds that came to his feeders, tending his flower gardens, boating, and spending time with his beloved canine companion, Heidi.

On April 19, 1947, he married the former Gladys G. Davies with whom he enjoyed nearly fifty years of marriage until her passing on January 26, 1997. They are survived by a son, Bob (Kathie) Eastwood of Massillon; two daughters, Linda (Paul) Zito of Macedonia and Paula Hood of Springboro; five grandchildren, Kori (Robert) Boyd, Julie (fiance, Grant Walters) Hood, Jason Eastwood, Brian (Jamie) Hood, and Chris Hood; and two great grandsons, Carson and Caden Boyd. Harold is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Alberta Eastwood and Carol (Richard) Adams, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ervin Eastwood.

Services for Harold, officiated by Rev. John W. Clark, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be beside his beloved wife in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Tappan Lake. Those wishing to honor Harold’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Tappan Volunteer Fire Department.
