Harold Dean Bowditch, 95, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the home of his daughter at Tappan Lake, after a period of declining health. Born December 29, 1919 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Charles and Ruth M. (Fivecoat) Bowditch. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Margaret L. Greer with whom he enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage until her passing on August 22, 2010; son, Jerry Lee Bowditch who died in 1952; grandson, Charles Gregory Arbuckle; great-grandson, Logan Gregory Arbuckle; and sister, Helen Jean Bowditch.
Dean is survived by a daughter, Caroline Sue (William Frank) Arbuckle of Tappan Lake; grandsons, William Lee (Jessica) Arbuckle of Columbus and Jeffrey Dean (Ronda) Arbuckle of Scio; and great-grandsons, Matthew Dean Arbuckle and William Braden Arbuckle.
A 1938 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Dean was a resident of Uhrichsville throughout his life and a longtime member of Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church. He was a conductor for the Pennsylvania, Penn Central and Conrail Railroads for many years until his retirement in 1979. Dean then enjoyed every day of his retirement, working on his farm.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, May 27, in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. No public visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice and the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum.
