Hallie P. Dempster-Garbrandt

July 9, 1960 — December 29, 2012

Hallie P. Dempster-Garbrandt, 52, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Aultman Hospital in Canton after a brief illness. Born July 9, 1960 in Dover, she was a daughter of John W. and Mary C. (Wood) Dempster of Dennison.

Hallie was a 1978 graduate of Conotton Valley High School who earned her cosmetology management certification from the Ohio State School of Cosmetology in Columbus. She spent over thirty years as a hair stylist, and her many clients will remember her from her salon, Family Tan and Cut in Dennison, as well as from Hair Designers in Uhrichsville. Since 1975, she also was a dance instructor at her sister’s dance studio Teresa’s School of Dance in New Philadelphia. Throughout her life, Hallie touched the lives of many people in both her professions, always doing her best to care for them and help them feel good about themselves. She was the ultimate cheerleader, not only for her family and loved ones, but for each person she encountered, especially her students at the dance studio. She will be deeply missed by so many people whose lives she brightened. In her spare time, she loved to read and enjoyed working and playing on the computer. She was a former member of the Young Democrats who attended the convention in San Francisco in her youth.

On May 6, 1989, she married James L. Garbrandt who survives her at their home. In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by her sister, Teresa (David) Moore of Dennison; nieces, Darcie (Sean Rinehart) Moore of Zurich, Switzerland and Kendra Moore of Dennison; stepchildren, Krista (Jeremy) Lindon and Ron (Hallie) Garbrandt of Dennison; and several grandchildren.

Services for Hallie, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Cancer Society.
