Glenn E. Gowins

August 16, 1926 — October 31, 2010

Glenn E. Gowins, 84, of Uhrichsville, O., formerly of New Philadelphia, O., passed away at the home of Alice and Mike Moreland, his daughter and son-in-law, while surrounded by his loving wife, family, and a dear friend, Delene Stemple, on Sunday, October 31, 2010 after a battle with heart and lung disease.

Born August 16, 1926 in Uhrichsville, he was the son of the late Delbert Raymond Gowins and Alice Mae (Haines) Gowins-Zimmerman.

On September 7, 1946, Glenn married the former Phyllis L. Ross who survives him at the home. He was a resident of Tuscarawas County for much of his life, living in New Philadelphia for many years, and was the owner and proprietor of Gowins Trucking. In retirement, he and Phyllis enjoyed wintering in Florida where they enjoyed the company of their many friends.

Glenn is also survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Jenna) Stemple of Mansfield, Mrs. Jim (Sis) Swisher of Tifton, Ga., and Mrs. Mike (Alice) Moreland with whom he had resided; grandchildren, Curtis Stemple, Mrs. Bill (Traci) Hengst, Jimmy Martin, Jr. and his wife, Angie, Ryan Huff and his wife, Mari, Jamie Swisher and his wife, Irene, Brent Moreland and his wife, Stacy, Luke Moreland, Nathan Moreland and his wife, Nacole, and Heath Moreland; three granddaughters-in-law, Marianne Stemple, Denise Stemple, and Jennifer Keaton; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Jones of Uhrichsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Glenn dearly loved his family and treasured the time that he spent with them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren of whom he was very proud.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Edward Stemple; a sister, Dorothy Howard; and his mother-in-law, Eurilla Ross.

Discharged as a Corporal from the Marine Corps, Glenn was a veteran of World War II who served his country in Guam, Iwo Jima, and China. He was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks, Moose, Eagles and V.F.W.

In keeping with Glenn’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, OH 44622, in lieu of flowers.
