Glen W. “Shorty” Parrish, 80, of Gnadenhutten, passed away at his home on December 26, 2008. Born August 24, 1928 at Gnadenhutten, he was a son of the late Frank H. and Bertha (Grott) Parrish. A life resident of the area, Shorty attended Gnadenhutten High School. In 1946, Shorty enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to serve his country at the close of World War II. Following his military career, Shorty worked as an equipment operator for Alsco for over 40 years until his retirement.
Shorty loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he loved dearly and supported faithfully in all of their schooling, athletics and other endeavors. He was also a devoted husband and father who took meticulous care of the family home and yard. Shorty enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and NASCAR, working on cars and was an avid animal lover.
On September 30, 1957, Shorty married Dolores A. (Standiford) Parrish, who passed away November 10, 1999.
Shorty will be dearly missed by his family, which includes a daughter, Mrs. Pamela Plotts of Uhrichsville; grandchildren Jerrod and wife Ashlee Plotts of Stillwater, Jason Milburn and companion Amanda McCulloch of Gnadenhutten, and Stephanie Plotts of Uhrichsville; sisters Helen Shumaker of Akron and Mrs. Ruth and husband Paul Porter of Dover; sister-in-law Virginia Parrish of Gnadenhutten; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Shorty was preceded in death by a brother Robert Parrish; sisters Thelma and Maxine; and son-in-law Mike Plotts.
Private family services for Shorty, officiated by Pastor Tom Klaserner, will be held in R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Internment will follow in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery at Gnadenhutten.
Those wishing to honor Shorty with a memorial donation may due so in his name to the American Lung Association.
