Gladys Dee Moughler

April 21, 1925 — March 18, 2014

Gladys Dee Moughler, 88, of Uhrichsville, was greeted by Jesus with open arms on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born April 21, 1925 in Somerset, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Eva Mae (Snell) Whitis.

A resident of the Twin City area for the past 40 years, Gladys had previously resided in Tallmadge where she was the owner and operator of the Tallmadge Day Nursery in the 60s and 70s. She had also worked for Goodyear prior to opening the nursery. Locally, she was a former member of the Uhrichsville Women of the Moose. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved gardening and caring for her flowers in her spare time.
On February 7, 1946, Gladys married Raymond Newton Moughler with whom she enjoyed nearly 39 years of marriage until his passing on January 21, 1985. In addition to her parents and loving husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry; 2 sons-in-law, Marty Stillwell and Gerald Houpt; and a grandson, Chris. She is survived by 3 daughters, Donna Houpt of Akron, Becky (Bob) Prior of Fayetteville, N. C., and Tamy Stillwell of Uhrichsville; 9 grandchildren, Dawn, Angela, Jerry, Tanya, Kelly, Aaron, Robbie, Marty, and Nikki; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her dear companion of over 27 years, Clarence Slocum of the home. One of 9 children, Gladys is survived by a number of siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Services, officiated by Pastor Dale Ickes, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Rush Church Cemetery near Uhrichsville. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, as well as for an hour prior to her funeral. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Crossroads Hospice for the wonderful care that was given to Gladys.
