Gilda "Taye" Tinney

July 31, 1963 — December 10, 2012

Gilda Taye Tinney, 49, of Dennison, was welcomed through Heaven’s doors on Monday, December 10, 2012 after sustaining injuries in a motor vehicle accident. Born July 31, 1963 in Dennison, she was a daughter of Walter Eugene and Constance Ruth (Kauffman) Hammond of Uhrichsville.

A lifelong resident of the area, Taye attended Indian Valley North High School where she was the captain of the flag corps in her senior year. She later attended Kent State University Tuscarawas. In her youth, she was very active in Girl Scouting which carried over into her lifelong love of the outdoors, hiking, camping and caring for animals both wild and domesticated. She was a woman of many interests including gardening, weightlifting, volunteering as a sponsor with Narcotics Anonymous, and attending Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of the Uhrichsville Moose Auxiliary. Above all else, she will be remembered for her enormous love for her family, especially her grandchildren, and how much she loved caring for them in a thousand different ways, from her delicious cooking to her “Mother Goose” attitude and her own unique way of signing off on cards to her family, “Forever and day, Momma Taye”.

On August 17, 1998, Taye married Andrew L. “Randy” Tinney who survives her at their home. In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by a son, Justin (Aliscaya) Hanson of Uhrichsville; daughters, Erica (fiancé, Rance Weaver) Garbrandt of Millersburg, Taina (Wes) Clark of Dennison, and Nicole Tinney of Dennison; grandchildren, Jostalyn, Breona, Tayelynn, Xander, Thomas, Gavin, Ethan, Spencer, Mylie, Gage, and Jeffery; siblings, Timothy Hammond of Gnadenhutten, Holly Hammond of Uhrichsville, and Jeffery Hammond of Dennison; mother-in-law, Barbara Tinney; brother-in-law, Ronald Tinney; sister-in-law, Donna Tinney; nieces and nephews, Haley, Zachary, Ian, Jeffery “Scooter”, and Nadalee; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Howard and Bertha Kauffman and Walter and Helen Hammond; nephews, Kody and Timmy; father-in-law, Donald Tinney; and an Uncle, Lee Stutler.

A memorial service and celebration of Taye’s life, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Those wishing to honor Taye’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church.
