Gilda L. Galantine

November 17, 1921 — April 3, 2009

Gilda L. Galantine, 87, of Dennison, O., passed away on Friday, April 3, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, O., following a brief illness.

Born November 17, 1921 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Raphael “Ralph” and Madeline (Paesano) Galantine.

Gilda was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1939 and from there went to St. Francis’ School for Nursing at Columbus, Ohio where she attained her nursing degree. She started working at Twin City Hospital in 1941 and later worked for Dr. Alvin Greenlee for twenty-nine years until his death. She then worked at the former Valley Manor Nursing Home at New Philadelphia until her retirement.

A lifelong resident of the Twin City area, Gilda was truly devoted to her community. She loved her friends and neighbors like they were family, and the feeling was mutual. She was well known for going above and beyond her duty to help anyone who was sick or injured, and more than a few neighborhood children (and adults) were the recipients of her loving care.

Gilda was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison and its Altar Society who, for many years, oversaw the church’s Memorial Book and Cemetery Funds. Until her health prevented her, she enjoyed gardening and bowling, as well as a variety of crafts including macramé and flower arranging.

The last of her generation, Gilda was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine M. Galantine (Sister Madeline DePaul); sister and brother-in-law, Yolanda and Casimir Kleski; brother, Dino P. Galantine; brother and sister-in-law, Tony J. and Betty Galantine; a niece, Ann Galantine; a nephew, J. Alan Galantine; and a great nephew, Paul Van Scyoc, in addition to her parents.

Her surviving family includes three nephews, Wayne M. Kleski and his wife, Katherine, of Silverlake, O., Bruce P. Kleski of New Orleans, La., and Gene Galantine and his wife, Gail, of Leesburg, Fla.; two nieces, Mrs. William (Toni) Probert and Mrs. Carl (Christina) Van Scyoc, both of Uhrichsville; great nieces and nephews, Bill, Dino, Melissa, Anjanette, Gene, John, Cherie, Sandra, Nikkie, Kate and Julie; and many dear great great nieces and nephews.

Services for Gilda, officiated by Father Martin J. Ralko, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.
Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, during which time a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Those wishing to honor Gilda’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund and Cemetery Fund.
