Gerald R. "Jerry" Brown, Jr.

November 15, 1948 — June 7, 2011

Gerald Robert Brown, Jr., 62, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away suddenly at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Born November 15, 1948 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Gerald Robert Brown, Sr. and Harriet Eileen (Walton) Brown.

A lifelong resident of Dennison, Jerry grew up attending Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Claymont High School in the class of 1968. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. Locally, he was member of the American Legion. Upon returning home from the service, he began his career with the Uhrichsville office of the U.S. Postal Service, continuing for thirty years until retiring in 2003. In retirement, he was a driver for the Senior Transportation department of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.

As a fifteen year old boy, Jerry met Lois Ann Clay who was twelve at the time. They struck up a friendship which turned into a relationship that lasted the rest of his life. Jerry and Lois were married on April 14, 1970 and lovingly raised a family together which includes a son, Bob Brown and his wife, Karla, of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Becky Brown of Uhrichsville; and four grandchildren, Bri, Brandon, Skylar and Tanner. Jerry was devoted to his family and treasured the time that he spent with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. His kids and grandkids will fondly remember Jerry’s fascination with space and Albert Einstein which he loved to share with them.

Jerry is also survived by a sister, Linda K. Harmon of Dennison; two brothers, Pastor Sam W. Brown and his wife, Teresa, and Jeffrey J. Brown and his wife, Daphne, all of Uhrichsville; a stepbrother, Richard Staneart and his wife, Sri, of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Bill Staneart.

In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
