George Henry Yager, Jr.

George Henry Yager, Jr., 89, of Dennison, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia. Born January 7, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late George H. Yager, Sr. and Frances Mary (Yanak) Yager.

A local resident since the age of 6, George was a 1945 graduate of Jewett High School before serving his country in the U.S. Army at the close of World War II. He was a member of Scio American Legion Post #482, life member of Tuscarawas V.F.W. Post #7943, and a former member of F. & A.M. Orange Lodge #406. George was a shop foreman for the Scio Pottery where he worked for 44 years and retired as a machinist from Handy-Harmon in 1995. He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston who had attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Sherrodsville for the past several years.

On June 20, 1948, George married the former Maxine E. Crimm with whom he enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage until her passing on October 4, 1997. They are survived by sons, Raymond (Lien) Yager and Robert (Nita) Yager; grandchildren, Jill, Brooke and Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Gavin, Garson, Garik, Brandon, Aubrey, Brinley and Marcella. George is also survived by siblings, Louis (Janice) Yager, James (Ella) Yager and Ernestine Stephens; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Yager.

Services, officiated by Pastor Ken Ogg, will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 11, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Tunnel Hill Cemetery near Bowerston. Visitation will be 5-8pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
