George Farrell Slocum, 94, of Uhrichsville, passed away on May 16, 2026, at Twin City Hospital in Dennison. He was born on September 14, 1931, in Massillon, to the late Frank Jefferson Slocum and Margaret Ann (Watkins) Slocum.
George was a hardworking man who retired from Alsco after 24 years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952. George enjoyed spending time fishing and even had his own fishing lure business, Slocum Lure. He also had a love for golfing and many other hobbies, especially collecting treasures and unique items he discovered in freshly plowed fields. He was formerly a member of the Midvale V.F.W.
On November 19, 1955, George married the love of his life, Reeda Mae Poletti who preceded him in death on October 21, 2020. George is survived by his children, Mark (Linda) Slocum, Terri Ann Cecil, Brenda Slocum, and Diana (Mike Swain) Addleman; son-in-law, Phil Steinbach; grandchildren, Clint Haney, Heather Harper, Joshua Slocum, Kim Hunter, Jamie Carron, Andrew Addleman, Shane Slocum, Bryan Manning, Lacy Lamphere, and Mitchell Addleman; 15 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Clarence Slocum.
In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by daughters, Carol Steinbach and Susan Haney; daughter-in-law, Ruthann Slocum; son-in-law, Allen Cecil; granddaughter, Nikka Hreha; great grandsons, Greydon Boles and Grant Haney; and his siblings, Robert Slocum, Frank Slocum, Jr., Barb Devore and Ralph Barr. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to George’s friends and neighbors, Norm Horstmann and Chris Campbell.
Services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be held two hours prior from 11 am until 1 pm. Burial will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice.
