George A. Sliffe

June 27, 1933 — July 18, 2022

George Allen Sliffe, 89, of Mingo Junction, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, July 18, 2022, from Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, after battling Covid-19 pneumonia. Born June 27, 1933 in Dundee, Ohio, he was a son of the late Daniel Dale and Pearl Eloise (Connor) Sliffe.

After his graduation from Dundee High School in 1951, George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an aerial photographer, stationed in Guam, during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he worked at Republic Steel and Dover Chemical for a time before beginning his long career as a truck driver. George was a talented diesel and automotive mechanic who could repair or rebuild almost anything. He had a fascination with technology and would build his own televisions and computers, was a gifted woodworker and carpenter who enjoyed creating beautiful furniture for his family, and enjoyed making model airplanes.

On January 5, 1957, George wed the former Stella Georgann Guthrie with whom he enjoyed over 54 years of loving marriage until her passing on June 2, 2011. They are survived by a daughter, Pamela (Terry) Dye; son, Allen Dale Sliffe; grandchildren, Daniel Dye and Sarah (Mark A.) Price; and great-granddaughter, Stella Price. George is also survived by Winona, to whom he was married in the church; sister, Irene (Robert) Baker; brother, Daniel Sliffe, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Danna Dayle Sliffe and Shirley Sampsel.

George and Stella were faithful servants of the Lord, beginning at Uhrichsville First United Methodist and continuing through several area congregations, including Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, having served as a Deacon in the Methodist church, as well as a teacher of the Word. George was active in ministry both through his music and through lay witness missions, and he truly loved the Lord and sharing the Good News.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Christ Community Church in Dellroy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
