George S. Polen

George S. Polen, 77, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover after battling Covid-19. Born August 15, 1944 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Frank Leroy and Mary Esther (McGill) Polen.

George was a lifelong Tuscarawas County resident who attended Tusky Valley High School before his long career as a mechanic and truck driver, having been employed by Cummins Diesel and Sugarcreek Cartage. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and tinkering on cars.

On October 7, 1962, George wed Biva Rae (Heintz) Polen with whom he looked forward to celebrating 60 years of loving marriage in the fall. He is also survived by their daughters, Joyce Polen, Brenda (Art) McDonald, and Rhonda (Dave) Ward; grandchildren, Carman (Chris) Viar, Cody (Miriam) Kepschull, Tyler (Liz) Emley, Travis (companion, Cassie) Kepschull, Jeffery (Holly) McDonald, Matthew McDonald, Kyrie (fiancé, Mark) McDonald, and Kelly (fiancé, Travis) Ward; and great-grandchildren, Paige, McKenna, Sydney, and Andrew Viar, Oliver, Sullivan, and Arthur Kepschull, Caden Crow, and Ford McDonald, with another expected. George is also survived by his brother, Dean (Heidi) Polen; sister, Wanda (Jeff) Kanode; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Roy Randolph, with whom George loved spending time working in the garage. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Miller, Maxine Bache, and Ruth Phillipi, and brothers, Ronnie and Charles Polen.

A celebration of George's life will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Wilderness Center in Wilmot. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 .
