George Freeman, 84, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, after a lengthy illness.
Born January 3, 1926 in Leesville, Ohio, he was a son of the late George McClain and Edna Mae (Mildred) Freeman.
George is survived by his wife, Winifred C. (Reneker) Freeman to whom he was married on February 19, 1977; a son, William Allen Freeman of Florida; two daughters, Shawn Moreland and her husband, Glen, of Bowerston and Grace Ellen Freeman and her companion, Mark Civiello, of Uhrichsville; three stepsons, Terry Ross and his wife, Kathy, of Kilgore, Harry Dean Ross and his wife, Phyllis, of Gnadenhutten, and Kevin Ross and his wife, Debbie, of Sugarcreek; a brother, Willard “Bill” Freeman and his wife, Dorothy, of New Philadelphia; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, George Ann Freeman; three brothers, Donald, Howard, and John; and six sisters, Esther, Betty, Marjorie, Isabelle, Alice, and Mildred.
George was a resident of the Twin City area for most of his life with the exception of the time that he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired clayworker, having been employed by Larson Clay in Gnadenhutten for over thirty-five years. In retirement he worked for a number of area businesses. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville.
In keeping with George’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A private family graveside service, officiated by Rev. Larry Malterer, will be held on a later date in New Cumberland Cemetery. Those wishing to honor George’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Grace United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.
