George Albaugh, Jr., 85, of Dennison passed away peacefully at his home, in the presence of his loving wife and daughters on October 6, 2011. Born on July 26, 1926 in Dennison, he was a son of the late George Edmond and Mary Alice (Shaw) Albaugh.
George was a lifelong resident of Dennison and attended Dennison High School until he heard the call of his country shortly before graduation, whereupon he and his best friend enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his military service in World War II, he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Hughes, surviving a kamikaze attack. George worked for Tusco Grocers, continuing with Associated Grocers, until his retirement in 1988 after many years of faithful employment. He was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where he was very active, serving on the church board, participating in the United Methodist Men, attending the Golden Rule Sunday School Class and singing in the church choir, which brought him much joy. In his younger years, he was a member of Uhrichsville 1st United Methodist Church where he had also been involved in many aspects of the church, including the choir. In his spare time, he enjoyed wood working and gardening.
On July 20, 1947, George married the former Barbara J. Slensby with whom he was looking forward to celebrating sixty-five years of blessed marriage next year. He is also survived by three daughters, Bonnie L. (James) Kreinbihl of New Philadelphia, Brenda K. Albaugh of Dennison, and Lora B. (Ted) Morrow of Dennison; nine grandchildren, Jason J. George’s greatest passion in life was for his family, treasuring the time that he spent with his beloved wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George’s other surviving family includes sisters- and brother-in-law, Shirley Albaugh of Sandyville, Patty Gauvey Dwyer of Clearwater, FL, and Jack and Lucinda Slensby of Crystal Lake, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
