Gary L. Neilson

Gary L. Neilson, 60, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 17, 2010. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Born October 3, 1949 in Dennison, O., he was a son of Lorene P. (Greenwalt) Neilson of Uhrichsville and the late Charles E. “Chick” Neilson.

Gary was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area and was well known for his skills on a motorcycle, from cross country to flat track to motocross. Gary was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and a pioneer to the sport in this area. He was also known for his special skills as an all around mechanic. Gary had worked for area coal mines, as well, including Valley Mining most recently.

Gary’s surviving family includes a daughter, Hallie Garbrandt and her husband, Ron, of Dennison; two sons, Casey Neilson and his companion, Casey, of Dennison and Doug Neilson of Uhrichsville; five grandchildren, Logan Armstrong, Griffin Garbrandt, and Drake, Meadow, and Braxton Neilson; and his longtime companion, Lori Freed of the home.

He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Waddington and her husband, John, of Uhrichsville; his nephews, John Wolf and Seth Arnold; his former spouse, Georgia “Sis” Neilson; and two dear pets, Tabby and Charlie.

Services for Gary, officiated by Rev. Jeff Graska, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Gary’s family in care of the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home to help defray the cost of his final expenses, in lieu of flowers.
