Gary Lee Hawkins

Gary Lee Hawkins, 60, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Dennison, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a lengthy illness. Born December 26, 1954 in Dennison, he was a son of the late William Henry and Hazel Jane (Gordon) Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Jean (Renicker) Hawkins with whom he enjoyed 13 years of marriage from 1991 to 2004, and brothers, Arthur W. “Billy” Hawkins and Larry A. Hawkins, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Ferguson) Hawkins; children, Troy Hawkins and Amanda (Dennis) Leggett; grandchildren, Pyper Leggett and Abagail and Bristol Hawkins; sisters, Susan K. (Jerry) Maurer, Lois Anno, and Janet Basiletti; brother, William H. (Elaine) Hawkins, Jr. ; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Kyle (Jess) Maurer, Amy Maurer, and Matthew Maurer with whom he was especially close.

Gary was a Twin City resident for most of his life where he served as a firefighter with the Dennison Fire Department from April of 1978 until January of 2005 when he retired as the Assistant Fire Chief.

Services, officiated by Pastor Michael O’Guin will be held at 1pm on Saturday, July 18, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
