Gary L. Garbrandt, 70, of New Philadelphia, O., passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at New Dawn Health Care Center in Dover, O., after an extended illness.

Born April 7, 1940 in Dennison, O., he was a son of the late Lawrence and Odessa Mae (Holmes) Garbrandt.

Gary served his country in the United States Army in the late 50’s before returning home to a career as an equipment operator in the local excavating industry.

Gary’s surviving family includes three sons, Larry Garbrandt and his wife, Sharon, of New Philadelphia, Greg Garbrandt of Uhrichsville, and Gary Garbrandt and his wife, Melina, of Yakima, Wa.; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Jane) Charlton of Uhrichsville, Mrs. John (Lori) Wilson of New Philadelphia, Mrs. Robert (Lisa) Swiger, Jr. of New Philadelphia, and Mrs. Eugene (Stephanie) Coleman of Minerva; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren with another expected; and his loving companion, Norma Holcomb.

He is also survived by four brothers Gene Garbrandt, Bill Garbrandt and his wife, Pat, John Garbrandt, and Tim Garbrandt; three sisters, Mrs. Roger (Marla) King, Kathy Richardson, and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Enos; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. (Northam) Garbrandt who died on March 9, 1999; a daughter, Vickie Lynn Garbrandt; two brothers, Jim and Terry Garbrandt; and a sister, Lois.

Services for Gary, officiated by Pastor James Cooper, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Those wishing to honor Gary’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged do so to the charity of their choice.
