Gary L. Craft, 81, of the Tappan Lake area, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on August 22, 2015. Born July 8, 1934 in Flushing, he was a son of the late Stewart Franklin and Cora Agnes (Gribble) Craft. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Jay and Larry Craft.
Following his graduation from Dennison High School in 1952, Gary served his country in the United State Air Force. He retired from Associated Grocers after 37 years and also worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator. Gary lived a long, beautiful, triumphant life as an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His first and utmost joy came from the time he spent with his family and activities with all his grandchildren and great grandson. He also treasured time outdoors on his farm, weed eating, brush cutting, and mowing. He was protestant by faith.
He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Carol D. (Christy) who he married on June 21, 1958 and with whom he enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Daughters, Christy (Clifford) Tope of New Philadelphia, LeAnn (David) Cantwell of Clintonville, and Brittney (David) Stroman of Worthington; grandchildren, Leslie (Jamie) Phillips, Celeste, Hanna, Parker, Chloe, Grace, and Lainey Cantwell and Poppy and Cooper Stroman; great grandson, Bronson Phillips; sister, Jill (Terry) Cox; and several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.
In keeping with Gary’s wishes he will be cremated. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
