Furber A. Doughty

May 11, 1940 — December 24, 2013

Furber A. Doughty, 73, of Dennison, passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Born May 11, 1940 in Martins Ferry, he was a son of the late George Henry and Ruth Winona (Schwender) Doughty.

At a young age, Furber began working in local coal mines, then in dairy farming and at Republic Steel in Massillon. Most of his career was spent working at the former Bar Met plant in Uhrichsville. In his spare time he enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and bikes and just enjoying the outdoors. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Furber is survived by his wife, the former Amber J. Jones; sons, Terry (Tammy) Doughty and Dale Doughty of Uhrichsville; daughters, Ashley Jones of New Philadelphia and Tammy (Jeff) Hendrix of Dennison; 13 grandchildren, including Furber Lawrence and Zailor Jones of the home; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane Antonacci of Dillonvale and Judy (David) Garabrandt of Uhrichsville; many nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Linda Norris and Bob Zook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Wayne Doughty; a grandson, Thomas Wylie; and 3 brothers, George E. and L. Gene and Larry Doughty.

In keeping with Furber’s wishes, a graveside service will be held in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28. No visitation is planned. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice.
