Fred E. McConnell, 83, of Dennison, O., passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center at Uhrichsville, O., following a period of declining health.
Born January 12, 1925 in Tippecanoe, O., he was a son of the late Samuel T. “Ted” and Ruth M. (Lee) McConnell.
Fred was a lifelong resident of the area, having been a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1943. He was a member of Park Christian Church in Dennison and had been employed by Centre Supply at Midvale until his retirement.
On April 18, 1947, he married the former Ila Marie Marsh with whom he enjoyed nearly fifty-four years of marriage until her passing on April 3, 2001. They were blessed with a son, Kenneth E. McConnell and his wife, Debora, of the Tappan area; a daughter, Shirley J. Beckley of Dennison; four grandchildren, Andrew E. McConnell and his wife, Justina, of Waterbury, Vt., Lauren E. Larkin and her husband, Jeremy, of Canal Fulton, Merle J. Beckley, III of Dennison and Christopher E. McConnell who preceded them in death; two great granddaughters, Hannah Jae and McKenna Elisabeth Larkin; one step grandson; three step great grandsons; and two step great great grandchildren.
Fred is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Schulz of North Canton and Sara Basham and her husband, George, of Tippecanoe; two brothers, Richard L. McConnell and his wife, Shirley, of Tippecanoe and Larry D. McConnell and his wife, Sue, of Uhrichsville; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Jean Watt of Dennison.
In addition to his wife, parents and grandson, Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Margery Norris, and his son-in-law, Merle J. Beckley, Jr.
Services for Fred, officiated by Pastor Vince Bagley, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor Fred’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Park Christian Church.
