Frank “Junior” Devore, 75, of Dover, formerly a longtime resident of Uhrichsville, died Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health. Born September 28, 1944, he was a son of the late V. Frank and Pauline L. (Garner) Devore and a brother of the late Chuck and Rick Devore.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Emma Joan (Haas) Devore, whom he married November 28, 1979; sisters, Judy (Jack) Stull, Joyce (Wayne) Hart, Dana (Dave) Meredith, and Kimberly (Don) Cline; brother, Roger (Sandy) Devore; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank had 5 daughters by a previous marriage who survive him, Paula Curty, Jennifer Devore, Cyndi (Justin) Jolly, Sheri Devore, and Sarah (Dan) Wilson, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his daughters, Frank also had 3 stepchildren, Randy (Natalie) Colaner, Debra (Mitchell) Kennedy, and Steve (Michelle) Colaner, along with 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A 1962 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Frank also studied at Kent State University Tuscarawas and The Ohio State University before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, during the Vietnam War. He retired as a police sergeant for Uhrichsville after 24 years on the post and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9. He enjoyed saving old postcards and putting them for sale on eBay during his retirement and was a past president of the Tri-County Postcard Club. He had also been a member of Tusco Rifle Club, as well as serving as a 4-H Leader and Counselor for many years. He was a member of the Uhrichsville Cathedral of Praise. Frank was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, and in his younger days, he enjoyed swinging the bat, earning him the nickname “Hammer”. He lived a quiet life with a gracious heart, never forgetting to tell Joan thank you for caring for him and ending each night with “I love you.”
In the interest of public health, Pastor Sandra Hall will officiate a private, family service at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
