Frank L. Davis

December 28, 1927 — September 18, 2013

Frank L. Davis, 85, of Bowerston, formerly of New Philadelphia, left this life as he had spent so much of his, peacefully, hand-in-hand with his beloved wife, Peggy, at their home on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Born December 28, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was a son of the late Leroy George and Lillian Hazel (Mitchell) Davis.

The day after his graduation from New Philadelphia High School in 1946, Frank proudly joined the U.S. Army and went on to serve his country in the 82nd Airborne Division at the close of World War II. Upon returning home, he began his career as a registered surveyor with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, continuing until he retired as the Administrator of the Engineering Department in 1986. Throughout his life, Frank was an avid outdoorsman who was well known in the hunting and fishing communities of Harrison and Tuscarawas Counties. He especially enjoyed coon hunting and turtle hunting. He was affiliated with many sportsmen’s clubs over the years and was a past president of the York Twp. Volunteer Fire Department.

Frank is survived by his wife, the former Margaret I. “Peggy” Huff, and their much loved canine companions, Pipsissewa and Skeezix, who they affectionately call “their boys”; his half brother, Jeff Davis of Ocala, Florida; five children, Ann Dysinger, Ellen Neely, Jon Davis, Mitchell Davis and Abbe Justus; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many dear cousins, friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Lillian S. and James Grasselli, and his stepmother, Pearl M. Davis.

In keeping with Frank’s wishes, a private service is planned with no public visitation or service, and he will be interred on their property, high on a hill, surrounded forever by the beauty of nature that he loved so dearly. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
