Forest Grace Edwards, 83, of 421 Herrick St., Uhrichsville, O., passed away on August 1, 2010 in the Community Hospice room at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia, O.
She was born on March 14, 1927 in Gilmore, O. in her home to the late Harry Ray and Rachel Mae (Quillen) Dunlap. At the age of 9 years old, her family moved to Rush Township on Blizzard Ridge Rd. in Uhrichsville.
She graduated in 1945 from Uhrichsville High School. She worked on aircraft for World War II in the 1940’s at the Berger Plant in Northeast Canton. She worked for Fab Ohio for 22 years in Uhrichsville until the age of 62. After retiring, she helped care for elderly people in their homes. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Gnadenhutten. She was a 500 bid card club member for 50 years in Scio, O. She enjoyed going out to lunch each month with the women retirees from Fab Ohio.
She was very proud that all three of her grandchildren graduated from college. She also attended all of her grandchildren’s football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, track, cheerleading, baton, dance recitals, competitions, and her nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved to sew and read the newspaper. She led a simplistic lifestyle and loved visiting her relatives and caring for them on a regular basis. She taught her family the value of taking time to assist those in need.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Lee (Joseph) Martinelli of Dennison; one sister, Merle (Richard) Schwitzgable of Canton; three grandchildren, Richard (Lisa) Martinelli and Tara (Michael) Supers of Dennison, and J. Jason Martinelli of Lake Worth, Fla.; and great grandchildren, Emily Rosenberry, Ricky and Rachel Martinelli, and Marisa and Broden Supers. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews survive her, as well. She had a special friend, Eileen Mathias, whom she loved to talk with on the phone and many other friends as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Alfred Dunlap; sister, Mary Stucin; former husband, R. Clyde Edwards; three sisters-in-law, Edith Albaugh, Helen Edwards, and Norma Rager; and nephew, Billy Stucin.
She had a big heart and took great pride in being able to take care of herself until her three week journey of ill health. Her family wishes to extend special thanks to the following who guided her on her journey to heaven: Victoria Cole (Forest’s Hospice Angel); Dr. Milan Packovich (Family Physician); Eric (Aultman Hospital ER Tech); Dr. Steve Sanofsky (Aultman Hospital Vascular Surgeon); Dr. Srinivasa Satti (Aultman Hospital Cardiologist); and Dr. Tara Mastracci (Cleveland Clinic Vascular Surgeon).
Calling hours will be held two hours prior to the funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5 at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, O. Funeral services for family and special friends, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at West Union Cemetery in Gilmore, O. Those wishing to honor Forest’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas, Stark and Carroll Counties (the former Hospice of Tuscarawas County) or the charity of one’s choice.
