Florence Mae Baumgardner, 88, of Dennison, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison after a period of declining health. Born October 10, 1925 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late L awrence James and Ina Mae (Dague) Mathias.
Florence was a lifelong resident of the area who was active for many years in Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Dennison and its United Methodist Women and Helping Hands groups. She loved to read and enjoyed spending time at the Dennison Public Library.
On May 29, 1958, Florence married William Joseph “Joe” Baumgardner with whom she enjoyed 53 years of marriage until his passing on June 6, 2011. They are survived by a daughter, Jane (Thomas) Adams; a son, Thomas Baumgardner; and a grandson, Gerald Grizzly Adams, all of Dennison. She is also survived by two brothers, Ralph Mathias of Newcomerstown and Frank Mathias of Uhrichsville, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Henry Mathias.
In keeping with Florence’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of her life, officiated by Pastor George Reichman, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, in Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Dennison. Interment will be on a later date in Sewellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to her family to help defray the cost of her final illness.
